...or is it "Balcony bra"? Or both?
No matter, we're here to answer your balcony/balconette queries!
What is a Balconette Bra?
Originating in the 1930s, the Balconette bra is so called because the bra acts as a "balcony" for your breasts. Hence why classic Balconette bras feature a straight-across shape on the cups. The bra was popularised by Marilyn Monroe in the 1950s!
The design of the Balconette bra emphasises your natural cleavage and lift without the need for extra padding. They aren't full-coverage, leaving lots of skin on show. The straps are wide-set, aiding in giving you that "balcony" effect!
Is a Balconette Bra right for me?
Balconette's are perfect for wearing with low-cut outfits, giving lift and projection to your breasts whilst also leaving plenty room to show off your assets. You can also wear them with boatneck tops and square necklines.
If you prefer underwired bras, the Balconette is perfect for letting your natural shape take lead while also maintaining support.
If you have wide shoulders, the Balconette will work great for you due to it's wide-set straps. If you are more narrow, you might not feel as supported or comfortable in a Balconette, but you may find a plunge bra more suitable.
