How to accessorize and style your lingerie for an elevated look
Hi, I’m Emma the Founder of Playful Promises and a confirmed lingerie addict!
When you see campaign images and Instagram pictures of people looking fabulous in lingerie, it might seem daunting to think about how to put these looks together yourself at home. To show you how easy it can be, I styled some of my favourite sets from Playful Promises this season.
I modelled these looks myself; I’m 45 years old and my body is squishy, but I still love dressing up - if I can enjoy it, anyone can! As a founder of a lingerie company that makes lingerie for expressing your sexuality, I feel it’s important to combat ageism, and show that I’m not advising you to do anything I wouldn’t do myself.
My first look is Wren. This bra and brief would be a very luxurious set by itself, so I’ve styled this simply with the matching suspender belt, our black seamed stockings and some over the top earrings from Zara.
Suspender belts and stockings are a great way to add a bit of excitement to an outfit without much extra effort. The thigh gap of skin between the stocking top and brief or belt line always adds drama!
My other tip is earrings…. Giant statement earrings always make me feel like I’m stepping out of a magazine shoot, and costume style jewellery can be purchased very inexpensively in places like Zara.
My next look is styling the Deja Day Second Skin recycled set. I have gone for the super comfy high waist brief and non wired high apex triangle bra. I often slouch about the house on a Sunday in these, feeling good about them being an eco option. To elevate this look I have styled these items with a Bettie Page leather underbust corset and gloves. The gloves are my own but you can get gloves like this from a range of places including Selfridges and Amazon.
My third look is Noriko. Noriko is a great satin set with comfy, but cute, pants. I wear this a lot in the day as the fit of the bra gives an amazing uplift. I decided to style this with latex accessories. Latex has a sexy feel, but can be quite intimidating, so by adding accents of it to an outfit it can look exciting without being too daunting for your first time wearing it. I’m wearing our Bettie Page latex beret, mittens and suspender belt.
My last look is with our best selling Dakota, a pretty sssssizzling sparkling snake embroidery set. I styled this by adding over the knee boots, coat and glasses (because who doesn’t think Velma is cute, smart and definitely the best Scooby Doo character!).
A coat plays into the age old fantasy of teasing what is underneath and pretty much everyone has a coat at home they can play about with.
I hope you enjoyed my tips and enjoy dressing up and expressing your playful side…. #feelplayful always, Emma
